In the incubator when the blocks are colonized, the light is not needed. You can turn it on for a short blocks inspection or taking readings from the humidity and temperature sensors.

If your incubator has a window – look if in the blocks near the window (exposed to light) there are any patches of green, it means that there is some mold (most likely Trichoderma). This may be due to the fact that some spores survived heat treatment of the substrate and they tend to grow faster in light than in the dark.

Therefore, if there is such a problem – the window should be covered with dark plastic sheets. If the substrate is developing, light is generally not needed for oyster mushroom mycelium. It should be noted that naturally mycelium develops in the mass of wood matter, in total darkness.

For the growth of oyster mushroom fruiting bodies light is necessary, otherwise it can form a long white leg with a cap looking like a small black dot.

On the packaging of all modern lamps light output in lumens is indicated. You can calculate the required number of lamps based on the fact that 1 square meter of space needs around 100 lumens of light.
